ISLAMABAD (TP NEWS) – Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry announced to form a new regulatory body for electronic, print and online media.

The body will be formed after merging the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) with the Press Council of Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference here outside Parliament House on Wednesday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry observed that the new body will be a unified regulatory authority which will overlook the regulation of print media, radio, TV channels and online media.
“The body will be named as Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PMRA) in which officials and representatives of the media will be included,” he told.
Fawad went on to say that the decision was taken to save national resources.  He also informed the media that his ministry has also eliminated censorship from the state media as it will broadcast complete sessions of the parliament from now.
“Now the government will not use public money for personal advertisement as the previous PML-N government had spent a huge amount on the advertisement,” he said.
