Islamabad: Son in Law of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Ifftikhar Chaudhry, Murtaza has been arrested from Dubai in a private housing scheme scandal.
The arrest was confirmed by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday.
While talking to media, Information Minister was of the view that the arrest was made due to his alleged involvement in a private housing scheme scandal.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials arrested Murtaza from Dubai on the arrest warrants issued by National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he said adding that the arrest is major breakthrough in scam.
He went on saying that the owner of the housing scheme is the father in law of Ifftikhar’s daughter which was the reason that he was given relief in a case heard by Ifftikhar himself when he was CJP.
Chaudhry added that due to the scam around 300 families were affected whereas thousands of people invested money in this housing scheme.
He also revealed that Ifftikhar’s son Arsalan Ifftikhar, daughter and son in law’s father are accused in the case.
In June, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had written a letter to NAB seeking an investigation the former chief justice and his family for allegedly defrauding people of billions in a housing scheme in Lahore.
